Animation – more than the fantasy (Lin Te Kuan)

Animation is another Japanese soft power that catches the attention of the world.
Animation itself plus the products that associated animation, it is a great market for
business. Generally, when it comes to Japanese animation, people tend to think of
beautiful drawing style, too pretty characters and the fantasy of Otaku. But in my
opinion, Japanese animation is more than that! It has three main meanings that normal

people do not easy to find out.
First, animation is the reflection of people’s desire. In Japanese animation,
female characters often have big, beautiful eyes, slender body shapes which are so
gorgeous that definitely can’t be found in reality. Some people say that these
characters are sexual discrimination and only the things to satisfy the desire of Otaku.
But I think these characters are merely the highest beauty people can ever achieve.
Though the standard of beauty is not the same for everyone , no one can deny that
there animation characters are really beautiful. So animation reflects and standard of
beauty of human and the pursuit of beauty in the real world.
Second, the themes of animation often talks about humanity. Japanese
animations are not just shallow killings and romance (though it is true that this kind of
animation still exists.) The animations that are popular all over the world usually have
the discussion about humanity and dissect about it. We all know that the analyst of
humanity has no ending. Japanese animations dissect humanity little by little, draw
out the drawbacks of humanity, sad, touching and other different and complicated
layers of humanity. The authors of Japanese animations have the great competence to
show these things through animation and use some topics that can make everyone feel
as if they are in the same situation. This is another reason why I love Japanese
animation. They help me think a lot about some problems about humanity and
emotions.
Third, Japanese animation tend to deal with complicated topics. The authors of
Japanese animation often add a lot of things in their animations. It helps the
animations become more diverse and abundant instead of boring and shallow. I think
this is one of the reason why Japanese animation can catch the eyes of the world. It
makes Japanese animations stand out from other countries animations. Beautiful
painting style plus great topics, who can say no to Japanese animations?
In summary, Japanese animation is a kind of animation which is great both in the
inside and outside. It uses beautiful outside to attract the eyes of people and then the
good inside continuing catches the attention of the readers. Therefore Japanese
animation is not that simple, it often has more meanings than people thought. No
wonder Japanese animation can be popular all over the world. Next time when
watching the animation, don’t forget to see the real meaning that the author is trying
to convey!
