Japanese characteristics -2 (Lin Te Kuan)

Japanese special characteristics are so many that only people who live in Japan
can discover!
Japanese are used to have drinks with their boss and co-workers. It is nearly
compulsory for them to do that because it is an important social event. Some people
told me that if a man goes home too early, his wife would think that his is not

welcome in his working place so even they don’t have to drink they still stay out until
late. I think this is so weird but poor because Japanese are really in great pressure!
Cannot even go back to their own houses? What a pity! But that is just Japanese.
Japanese housewives are also in high pressure. Japanese women usually quiet
after geeing married. They have to put every effort in their families. Not only that,
every community’s housewives have unions. They gather to share with each other
and have some rules within the union. My teacher has a friend who married
Japanese. She was still working when just married. After a few days, she went back
home and found a note that wanted her to come to the housewife union. She was
surprised because she didn’t know that was required. Because she was a Taiwanese,
she was really nervous to be in the housewife union. And other housewives would
blame her if she didn’t obey the rules. As a result, she had no choice but to leave her
job and focused on being a housewife because it really takes a lot of efforts to be a
good housewife. So we can see that Japanese do everything carefully and in
their “Japanese way”: in groups, rules and attentative.
One strange thing about Japanese is that they drink all the time. It is common
for people who are already working. But Japanese students also drink a lot! Though
the law restricts that people under twenty cannot drink, there are still many students
under twenty drinks. This is common in every country though (what people behave
id different from law), Japanese students seem to get used to drink whenever they
are in social events. I remembered one time I hung out with a Japanese boy, before
we started to eat, he asked me “Do you want to drink today?” I was confused and
surprised because in Taiwan unless people plan to drink alcohol, we don’t think
about drinking at all. But it seems that Japanese even students in normal events, they
drink, almost every day. Then I replied “No, but it is okay if you want to.” he then
said “That is good. Because I have an exam tomorrow, I can’t drink too much today. ”
Then I asked him if he often drinks, he answered yes and he looks at me as if I asked
a strange question. So if there is anyone who wants to study in Japan, make sure you
can drink!
There are a lot of aspects of Japanese that cannot be found easily but after
living in Japan, we can find out these interesting things about Japanese!
